Came to SA in 1920 from Blackfoot, ID, stopping for a time in Salt Lake City. Grad of Old Main Avenue High School & St. Mary's University. Archdiocese of San Antonio, Roman Catholic Deacon. Liturgy of Ordination 6/10/1973 to Permanent Diaconate Our Lady of Grace Church, San Antonio. Comment from daughter: "My dad grew up here (SA) and went to school at Mark Twain . He went to St. Mary's University at night school so he could work his way through with a day job. It took him ten years to complete his degree in business."

               Moved to SA in teens, grad Jefferson High School, voted "Most Athletic Girl". Attended UT and U of Arkansas. Married in 1940. Attended Our Lady of Grace Parish, St. Mark's in SA, and St Peter's in Boerne. After Don retired, together they ministered to the sick in area hospitals. Miriam ("Granny") will be most remembered for her deep faith, her sense of humor, her gregarious nature and her ability to love others and demonstrate it. She never met a stranger or turned from anyone in need.

               Was in San Antonio at time of brother Max's death in 1962. Comment from granddaughter: "My Grandpa Wittig (Alvin) and Grandmother Wittig (Helen) lived here in San Antonio.He was born in Fred'sbg, Grandmother in S.A.   I don't know how they happened to be in Idaho when Dad was born.  Maybe that's where they eloped to and stayed a while. That may have been where they had the confectioner's business.  I know the cigar stand was in a prominent S. A. hotel.  They saved their change in a jar for many years and bought a farm with the money. They had a horse named Baby. She ran away with me once and the next time we went there they had sold her. We went out to the country many Sundays to visit them." Registered for the WWI Civilian Draft in Bingham Co, ID in 1917-1918.

               Daddy Moon died in California at a football game. He was a big UT fan and flew to a lot of their away games. Hiis brother Paul had been a football coach (not at UT). Fortunately Daddy Moon was with his brother at the game, because it turned out he had left all his ID at his hotel.

              

               He married Alice Gwen Collins, 10 Jun 1916.

               Of San Antonio, TX at time of her mother Frances' death in 1943. President of the City Federation of Women's Clubs (SA?). Have letter from Superintendent in Mar 1929 accepting her resignation as Principal of Mountain Brook School in Birmingham AL.

Isaac appears in 1819 Conecuh Co Tax Rolls and on 1820 Conecuh Co AL Census as head of household. Also could be the Isaac Collins listed in 1805 Wilsonson Co (later Amite Co), MS Census.

       117   Anna Simpson. Born 24 Aug 1779 in County Antrim, Ireland. Died Mar 1859 in Pontotoc Co, Mississippi.

 

               Anna left Ireland after first husband John Wallace died. She met William Horan (he was from England) on the way over to America. They married soon after they arrived here, early 1800's, and first settled in South Carolina near where her father John Simpson had also settled. Anna was an only child. She and John Wallace had two children. She and William Horan had three children. William died unexpectedly while in England on business, leaving Anna to raise five small children.

               During the Revolutionary War Alexander served 84 months as a private in the North Carolina troops. For this, his heirs were granted 640 acres of land13. 1740 arrived in PA. 1760 Moved to Orange Co, NC.

               "Most Turrentines in America will find that their ancestors came from a farm in Orange County, North Carolina near Hillsborough. Today the local Durham Turrentine Association maintains the cemetery where our earliest immigrant ancestors are buried.

              

               Two brothers, Samuel and Alexander Turrentine came to Philadephia from Ireland in 1745. They were indentured to pay for their passage. My ancestor was Samuel, his indenture was to John Dickey of Chester Co., PA. In 1755, the brothers obtained land in Mifflin Co. However, the French and Indian Wars caused them to leave and move to North Carolina."
