Sevier Co, AR Surnames: Collins, Moon, Steel, Turrentine.
Starting in about 1850 and up until the early 1950s, various ancestors of mine lived here from these four primary surnames.
I never knew so many of my family lived, died or just stayed for a while in Sevier Co, AR. Early in my genealogy research I found one family line, then searched for and found several others.
Click Here for a cascading pedigree. It is not my complete one, just the ones mentioned on this page who lived in Sevier Co, AR at some point during their lifetime. For simplicity, it obviously does not show all the children/siblings.

Here are the basics (for many more details about these people, their descendants, and their siblings and their descendants, please read near the end to find my complete tree):
David Elbert Moon was born in NY, his wife Grace Ella Boardman in DeKalb, IL. They married and had all their children in DeKalb, but he, his wife, his mother Delia Rachel Pierce Moon, and most of his children show up in the 1920 and 1930 Sevier Co, AR Censuses. I believe David, Grace and Delia died and were probably buried in or near Sevier Co, AR in the 1920s-1950s.
His son Evan Ross Moon (born in DeKalb, IL in 1891) was in Calhoun Co, AL by the 1920 Census with his wife Alice Gwen Collins. Alice was born in Sevier Co, AR in 1890. Perhaps they met in Sevier Co when his parents moved there. They married in 1916, probably in AR. Alice and Evan moved many times and finally ended up in San Antonio, TX when their daughters Pauline and Miriam (my grandmother) were in their teens. That is where they all spent their lifetimes and final days, and where Aunt Polly is still going strong.
Alice?s parents were Walter Henry Collins and Frances Ellen Steel. Walter was born in MS in 1854 to Abraham Collins and Pamelia Adeline Horan, but the family had moved to Sevier Co by 1860. Abram and Adeline lived out the rest of their days in and near Sevier Co. They had 17 children, several who remained in the area. Frances lived her whole life in Sevier Co and was born to Thomas George Tucker Steel and Phoebe Turrentine. Thomas was born in VA and Phoebe in Bedford Co, TN, but they were in Hempstead Co, AR by 1850 and Sevier Co, AR by 1860 and lived out the remainder of their lives in Lockesburg, Sevier Co. Phoebe?s parents Archelaus Turrentine and Margaret Smith were born in NC but were in Paraclifta, Sevier Co, AR by 1850 and spent the remainder of their lives there.

Unfortunately, each time I upload my tree at Ancestry, I get a different database number, so I can?t give a permanent link directly to my tree. Visit http://www.ancestry.com/trees/awt/main.htm and search for one of the names above to find my tree. Use dates, spouse, places, or parents to narrow it down. You will also find one or two other trees with these families.
